ZZ Plant
Sculptural, glossy, and nearly indestructible—the ZZ Plant is a minimalist’s dream. With upright stems and waxy, deep green leaflets, it adds bold texture to shelves, desks, and corners without demanding attention. Ideal for low-light interiors and busy lifestyles.
Light:
Thrives in low to medium light. Perfect for shaded rooms or offices in Johannesburg and Pretoria. Avoid direct sun—it can fade or scorch the leaves.
Watering:
Water sparingly. Let the soil dry out completely between waterings. In summer, this may mean watering every 2–3 weeks; in winter, even less. ZZs are drought-tolerant and prone to root rot if overwatered.
Climate:
Adaptable to most indoor conditions. Happy in temperatures between 18–28°C. Keep away from cold drafts and heaters.
Humidity:
No fuss here—ZZs tolerate dry air well. No misting required.
Soil & Fertiliser:
Use a well-draining mix with compost and perlite. Feed lightly with a balanced liquid fertiliser once every 6–8 weeks during spring and summer. Skip feeding in winter.Maintenance:
Wipe leaves occasionally to maintain their shine. Remove yellowing stems at the base. Repot only when rootbound—ZZs like snug pots.
Common Issues:
Rarely affected by pests. Yellowing or mushy stems usually signal overwatering. If in doubt, hold off on watering.
