Areca Palm
Bring tropical calm to your space with the Areca Palm, also known as the Bamboo or Golden Cane Palm. With its feathery, arching fronds and multi-stemmed base, this plant adds height, texture, and a soft green glow to interiors. Perfect for homes, offices, or event styling.
Light:
Thrives in bright, filtered light. Avoid harsh direct sun, especially in Gauteng’s midday heat—it can scorch the fronds. Near a window with sheer curtains is ideal.
Watering:
Keep soil evenly moist but never soggy. In warmer months, water when the top 2–3 cm of soil feels dry. Reduce frequency in winter. Use room-temperature water and ensure good drainage. Climate:
Areca Palms love warmth and humidity. They do well in most South African interiors, but avoid placing them near heaters or cold drafts. Ideal indoor temps: 18–24°C.
Humidity Boost:
Mist the fronds weekly or place the pot on a tray of pebbles with water to increase humidity—especially helpful during dry Highveld winters.Soil & Fertiliser:
Use a well-draining mix with peat, perlite, and compost. Feed with a diluted liquid fertiliser every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer. Skip feeding in winter.
Maintenance:
Trim yellow or brown fronds at the base. Wipe leaves gently to remove dust and keep the plant looking fresh.
Common Issues:
Watch for spider mites in dry conditions. Mist regularly and treat with neem oil if needed. Yellowing leaves often signal overwatering—check drainage.
